FORT PLAIN, N.Y. (WNYT) — A Fort Plain sex offender is accused of having unregistered email and social media accounts.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said investigators received a report on April 15 about Carl S. David, 63, allegedly using internet and social media accounts. A deputy confirmed David was using several social media accounts and an email address that were not registered with the New York State Sex Offender Registry, police said.

The Sheriff’s Office said its Criminal Investigations Unit reviewed the case and found David has been a registered Level 2 sex offender since October 2000. This is classified as a moderate risk to reoffend.
David was convicted of second-degree sexual abuse for a crime involving a victim younger than 14 years old, according to the sex offender database.

Investigators said he had not registered any email addresses or social media accounts with the registry during his time on it.

On May 1, investigators and deputies found David at his home and took him into custody.
David was arraigned in Palatine Town Court and released on his own recognizance, according to the release.
