‘Predatory behavior’: Former officer sentenced for recording children in bathroom

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) - A former Harrison police officer has been sentenced to 18 to 19.5 years in prison after he was found guilty of hiding cameras in a home to record children in the bathroom.

Eric Gregory pleaded guilty Tuesday to five counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and several counts of voyeurism and tampering with evidence.

According to court records, the former officer hid the camera in a floor vent of his bathroom and used the videos for sexual gratification.

When confronted about it, Gregory destroyed the SD card with the videos on it, prosecutors previously said.

Detectives later found multiple videos of minors.
“Eric Gregory is a menace, predatory, distasteful and manipulative in every way possible,” a victim said Thursday in court.

Before his sentencing, his defense attorney argued that since his client has no prior criminal history and has accepted responsibility of the charges, the judge should consider that before making a decision.

“I am sorry for what I have done and for the pain and embarrassment I have caused everyone. This was a bad choice that I made and there’s no excuse,” Gregory said in court.

He added that what he did was a mistake.

However, Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Kevin Miles said Gregory was well aware of the law, as he was a law enforcement officer for 20 years in Hamilton County and should have known better.

“So, this took a lot of planning and a lot of effort, and it’s certainly not a mistake,” Judge Miles told Gregory. “One time would be a mistake perhaps, but the multiple times you committed these offenses and the planning that went into it certainly are indicative of that.”

Judge Miles said he also had to issue a bench warrant for Gregory because he was noncompliant while out on bond.

In addition to serving as a police officer, Gregory was also a sworn Hamilton County park ranger.

During his time as a ranger, Miles said Gregory captured former female coworkers on camera, too.

“You didn’t make a mistake - this is planned behavior over time,” Miles said. “This took planning, this took effort. It’s certainly not a mistake.”

Judge Miles added that Gregory’s actions left a significant psychological impact on the victims he filmed, describing his conduct as “predatory behavior.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Gregory will have to register as a sex offender. He also has the opportunity to get out of jail on probation.
